FOREIGN LANGUAGE AREA STUDIES
Take 12 credits of language coursework and 12 credits in related history, language, or literature.
With the associate’s specialized curriculum area in foreign language area studies, you can build concentrated expertise in Arabic, German, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, or Korean language, culture, history, government, and literature. You’ll take 12 sequential credits in a language, followed by 12 related courses in a different discipline.

Curriculum Courses: 25 Credits
One 3-credit course in communication, writing, or speech, chosen from the following:
- Composition and Literature (3 Credits, ENGL 102)
- Standard English Grammar (3 Credits, ENGL 281)
- Introduction to News Writing (3 Credits, JOUR 201)
- Any 3-credit COMM or SPCH courses
- Any 3-credit WRTG courses (except 486A and 486B)
One 1-credit course, chosen from the following:
- Effective Time Management (1 Credit, CAPL 198A)
- Career Transitions (1 Credit, CAPL 198B)
- Interviewing Skills (1 Credit, CAPL 198C)
- Solve Problems, Make Decisions (1 Credit, BMGT 121A)
- Communication and Collaboration (1 Credit, BMGT 121B)
- Any 1-credit course
12 credits of language core coursework; take sequential courses in a single language, usually numbered 111–112, 114–115, or 211–212.
9 credits of foreign language area studies courses, chosen from any courses in the culture, history, language, literature, government, or politics of the area.
